Maghery Seniors Back in Top Flight

Maghery defeated Granemore tonight (Fri 6th November) in the ACL Division 2 promotion play-off. The win means that Maghery now promoted to the top flight for the 2010 season, along with Whitecross.
On a cold night in the Athletic grounds with difficult underfoot conditions, it was Maghery's superior scoring threat and efficiency in front of goals that made the difference.
Despite losing the possession battle in the first half Maghery lead at the break by 2 points (0-04 to 0-02).
A much more determined Maghery took to the field in the second half; the team's hard working and composed performance yielding 5 scores, including some sublime free kick conversions from county star Stefan Forker, to stretch the lead to 5 points (0-07 to 0-02).
Granemore finally opened their second half account with less than ten minutes remaining, quickly tacking on a few scores. With the game entering injury time the score was Maghery 0-08 Granemore 0-05. Despite over 5 minutes of injury time being played there was to be no more scores and so Maghery held on for a deserved win that secured top flight football for the 2010 season.
