10 Feb 08 UCSFL Maghery v Aodh Rua, Ballyshannon

15 February 2008

Maghery v Aodh Rua, Ballyshannon
Maghery 3 - 20 Ballyshannon 1 - 06

In perfect footballing conditions at Felix Hamill Park on Saturday past, Maghery took on Ballyshannon in their second Ulster League game. Both teams seemed well matched in the opening stages, reflected on the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter: Maghery 0-5, Ballyshannon 1-2. For the remainder of the half, the home-team stepped up the pace of the game and found between the posts more easily than their Donegal counterparts. The score at the interval read Maghery 5 in front.

Maghery’s second half performance was exceptional, and the men in blue and yellow added a further 3 goals and 8 points to their half-time tally of 12 points. A young Shea Tennyson netted the first goal in the 6th minute, while the other two goals (15th & 21st minutes) were accounted for by the unstoppable Stefan Forker. Notably, Stefan scored an impressive 2 - 10 over the hour.

When the final whistle sounded all Maghery’s forwards, plus half the defence, had their names on the score-sheet. Solid work in the back lines limited the Ballyshannon men to 2 points over the latter half of the game, and midfield had the upper hand during the course of the match. All-in-all, a great performance by the entire panel, resulting in a very convincing and satisfying win for team, management and followers.

Final score: Maghery 3 - 20 Ballyshannon 1 - 06.

This weekends Ulster League Fixture:
MacDermotts are away to Tyrone team, Aghyaran, on Sunday 17th February.
