Maghery Secure Division 1 Status
11 October 2005
A spirited team performance against Wolfe Tones last Sunday ensured that on entering the club’s Centenary Year in 2006, Maghery Seniors will remain in the top Division. Maghery started brightly and dominated in the first half. Stefan Forker was on fine form, registering a personal tally of 4 points in the half; and with added scores from his brother Paul, Joe Fox and a fine goal from Stephen Nugent, Maghery led at the interval 1:06 to 0:04.
Maghery kept the pressure on in the second half, the defence working tirelessly to prevent a Tones comeback. The Lurgan side were awarded a penalty midway through the half but were denied by a brilliant save from Kieran Fox in the Maghery goals. Maghery missed two clear goal chances also but this did not dampen their fighting spirit. Stefan and Paul Forker both added scores in the second half and substitute Kieran Rafferty popped over another to put the game beyond the Tones.
Final score Maghery 1:10, Wolfe Tones 1:06.
This was another great team performance by the Loughshore Men in a game where the pressure was on. Maghery answered all questions asked of them on the day and truly deserved to secure their place in Division One for another year.
Congratulations to the team and their managers who put in so much time and effort over the year. Hopefully Sunday’s victory made it all worthwhile! Wolfe Tones now face Silverbridge to decide who will claim the last spot in Division One. Good luck to both teams for what promises to be an exciting match.
